Tobacco Smoke Avoidance

INTERVENTION:
To avoid all tobacco smoke exposure during pregnancy and the first year of life.

INTERVENTION GOAL
:
To decrease risk of asthma.

EVIDENCE supporting INTERVENTION:
Multiple studies suggest that prenatal and postnatal tobacco smoke exposure is hazardous.  Prenatal maternal smoking and postnatal smoke exposure have been linked to small lung size, increased risk of childhood asthma, increased number of respiratory infections, as well as issue of behavioral and cognitive health.

POTENTIAL RISK:
None

INTERVENTION SPECIFICS:
Avoid maternal smoking during pregnancy and for first year of life
Avoid maternal environmental smoke exposure during pregnancy
Avoid infant environmental smoke exposure
